The SCAD Museum of Art (typically located at 227 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.) is closed for renovations until this Spring.  However, we have installed a temporary museum gallery on the 3rd floor of the Jen Library (201 E. Broughton St).  As always, all of our events and exhibitions are free and open to the public.  ere are our upcoming events/exhibitions:

Poetic Visions: Focus on Black Women Artists

In conjunction with the Savannah Black Heritage Festival, the Walter O. Evans Center for African American Studies and the SCAD Museum of Art present an exhibition that celebrates the visual expressiveness of the art of African-American women. A selection of approximately 15 pieces from the Walter O. Evans Collection/SCAD Museum of Art features the work of sculptors Mary Edmonia Lewis (c. 1845- c. 1911) and Elizabeth Catlett (b. 1915), folk artist Clementine Hunter (c. 1886-1988), and painters Alma Thomas (1891-1978), Lois Mailou Jones (1905-1998) and Margaret Burroughs (b. 1917), as well as Faith Ringgold (b. 1930).

  Leadership: Oliphant Cartoons and Sculpture from the Bush Years
February 1 – April 6, 2008

This exhibition, organized by the Susan Conway Gallery in Washington, DC, presents original political cartoons by Pulitzer Prize-winning artist Patrick Oliphant from the beginning of the 21st century to the present, as well as unique examples of the artist’s work in sculpture and oversized caricature drawings.

Admission is $4- $10, free to members.
