Old Drug Store Attraction St Augustine Florida

For a contrast to today’s high-tech pharmacies, stop in at the Oldest Drug Store located in Historic downtown. You won’t see any computers - instead, antique cash registers, wood floors and bottles of remedies, elixirs and tonics are a charming representation of an era gone by. Be sure to visit the gift shop where you can pick up collectibles, jewelry and seasonal items.

Get face-to-face with some of the world’s most famous and prominent people. A visit to Potter’s Wax Museum provides an up close and personal look at nearly 170 different wax sculptures of Presidents, Kings, explorers, movie stars, artists, authors and more. The life-size wax figures are astoundingly real-looking and as you tour through you can learn interesting facts about the folks you are viewing. See Tiger Woods—one of the newer figures, or the cast of the hit TV series Jerry Seinfeld, just to name a few. Potter’s Wax Museum has been captivating guests for 50 years and is the first museum of its kind in Florida.

As with many of the significant sites in our nation’s oldest city, the Tolomato Cemetery offers visitors a glimpse into the diverse history of the people who lived and died in St. Augustine. It’s one of Florida’s oldest cemeteries, and is known to be the final resting place of many confederate soldiers. Before 1763, the Cemetery was the site of the Christian Indian Village of Tolomato. When Great Britain acquired Florida, the village was abandoned, until 1777 when Father Pedro Camps, pastor of the Minorcan colonists, obtained permission from Governor Patrick Tonyn to establish this cemetery for his parishioners. Father Camps was buried here in 1790; and the first bishop of St. Augustine, Augustin Verot is buried in the mortuary chapel at the rear of the cemetery. The last burial took place in 1892.
