  Welcome from the Chief Conductor

company ceoWelcome to the inaugural issue of the Old Town Trolley Tours eNewsletter. Sure, we have marvelous websites at www.trolleytours.com, www.sealtours.com and www.ghostsandgravestones.com, a fabulous brochure and excellent guest services, but things change. Our newsletter is designed to keep you informed of the many things that change in company operations and to learn more about us and our over 950 CASTmembers. We hope to make it not only informational as to the new opportunities our service provides, but also an entertaining and educational resource.

Old Town Trolley Tours and its parent company, Historic Tours of America have been in the sightseeing, museum operations business since 1980. We are recognized as one of the most progressive, innovative and guest responsive companies in our industry. We really want to get to know you and hopefully we will hear back from you often. This newsletter will be our way of helping us maintain contact with the most important people we serve … our guests.

Thank you for your interest and we look forward to seeing you at any of the tours or attractions or retail operations in the family of Historic Tours of America. More than that, we hope we will hear back from you on a consistent basis on how we can improve.

Famous Faces getting aboard Old Town Trolley Tours of Key West

Samantha Brown and Old Town Trolley DriverOld Town Trolley Tours of Key West has been busy with some very famous folks on board.  First we had the good fortune to host Samantha Brown of the Travel Channel while she was in Key West filming a promotional video; she is pictured on the left with trolley conductor Vanessa Brock.

President Jimmy Carter, Rosalyn Carter and trolley conductorNext we had former President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalyn Carter, who were on a personal visit on Royal Caribbean’s Grandeur of the Seas. This is President Carter’s third visit to the Southernmost City. He has previously spent two family vacations at the Harry S. Truman Little White House and is very fond of Key West. Old Town Trolley’s own Betsy Smith escorted the former president and first lady around. Local author and photographer Rob O’Neal presented a copy of his book Photo Safari to President Carter as a photo from his last visit to the island appears in the book.

The ladies were visiting the island on Royal Caribbean’s Majesty of the Seas for the day and Old Town Trolley conductor Jim Cole showed them the best that Key West has to offer on his tour.

Someone’s in the kitchen with…

Old Town Trolley Tours not only has talented talkers, we also have great cooks. Each month in our own company newsletter, The Nation’s Storyteller, we feature a recipe by one of our talented chefs. This issue we are pleased to share one of our favorites with you. It one comes from Monica Munoz, our marketing coordinator, who is a native Key Wester and is spending a year working at Old Town Trolley Tours of San Diego. We hope you enjoy it!

shrimpMonica’s Marinated Shrimp
• 1 c. olive oil
• 2 T. hot pepper sauce
• 1/4 c. chopped fresh parsley
• Juice of one lemon
• 3 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 T. tomato paste
• 2 t. dried oregano
• 1 t. salt
• 1 t. ground black pepper
• 2 lbs. large shrimp, peeled and deveined with tails attached
• skewers

1. In a mixing bowl, mix together olive oil, parsley, lemon juice, hot sauce, garlic, tomato paste, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Reserve a small amount for basting later. Pour remaining marinade into a large resealable plastic bag with shrimp. Seal, and marinate in the refrigerator for 2 hours. Place skewers in water and let soak for 30 minutes.

2. Preheat grill for medium-low heat. Thread shrimp onto skewers, piercing once near the tail and once near the head. Discard marinade.

3. Lightly oil grill grate. Cook shrimp for 5 minutes per side, or until opaque, basting frequently with reserved marinade.
