Here are some local tips on the best places to celebrate:
Key West Bar Stroll
If you are interested in starting the party early, the Key West Bar Stroll starts at Sunset Pier in the Ocean Key Resort at 2:00pm. The bar stroll will take you to a variety of different bars and offers tons of tasting opportunities for only $25. The stroll will end at Dante’s. If you plan to eat some great food and watch the fireworks after the bar stroll, take a taxi over to the VNA Hospice Picnic at Casa Marina.
VNA Hospice Picnic and Higgs Beach
Here’s a great itinerary for celebrating on the evening of the 4th of July in Key West. You can choose to visit all 3 locations or just stay at the picnic in the Casa Marina Resort. The 29th annual picnic starts at 5:00pm and includes entertainment, picnic buffet, cash bar, kids activities, and a silent auction. You will be able to see the entire fireworks display from the resort, but if you want the closest view, then stroll over to Higgs Beach next door. The beach will be crowded so it is best to get there early and stake out a spot.
The Key Lime Pie Festival
Key West is known for it’s delicious homemade key lime pie—and various other treats made with this indigenous fruit. So come, treat your taste buds this July 4th during the Key Lime Pie Festival. It takes place July 4-6 and includes the crowning of Miss Key Lime Pie and Lil’ Miss Key Lime Pie, a pie eating contest and a competition to see who makes the best key lime pie!
Fireworks on the Fury
You don’t need a lawn chair and mosquito spray to enjoy the fireworks in Key West. Hop on Fury Water Adventures’ catamaran and see the show from the perfect spot in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Fury’s 4th of July adventure includes a relaxing sail with food, soft drinks and all the beer and wine you can drink. It’s a really popular event so if you’re interested, book early.
White Street Pier
If Higgs Beach isn’t close enough for you, then get there really early and stake out your spot on the White Street Pier. The pier goes out into the Atlantic Ocean and gives you the best view of the Key West 4th of July Fireworks.
Another great spot for the fireworks is Smathers Beach. This beach is located about 8 blocks from Higgs Beach and offers a more intimate viewing of the fireworks. Bring a blanket, your own picnic basket, and relax while the sun sets and get ready for a great presentation.
