San Diego Seals captainI am a native of Nebraska, and have lived in San Diego for more than 30 years. I first came here when I joined the Navy fresh out of high school. Serving almost four years, I decided to stay in this city that I came to love. Entering an apprenticeship program, I worked in the printing industry for the next several decades. By 2002, technology changed the career focus to starting a new job outlook at mid-life. An aspiring writer, I continue work on Great American Novels. I am certain that my storytelling abilities, powers of observation, and love of working with people will infuse my Old Town Trolley SEAL Tour-and that it, in turn, will enhance my writing. I am an active outdoors man. I love to ski, surf, and hike. My wife Beth and I camp and whitewater raft together. I have three children and one grandson.

He saw service as an officer with the Royal Engineers and later with the Royal Marines, where he led adventure expeditions to North Africa and Eastern Europe. He holds a USCG Captain’s License and has worked as a professional Ships Captain on the west coast of Mexico. His interest in Maritime History led to a special study of 19th century British Maritime exploration in the Sea of Cortez. His interests include hiking in the interior of Mexico and kayaking in the Sea of Cortez. He is a member of the San Diego Zoological Society, an avid bird watcher, and an amateur Naturalist. Currently he teaches scuba diving, specializing in underwater photography. When he is not in or on the water he can be found at home listening to Italian Opera or playing Spanish Guitar.

Captain Don - CAST member since 2006

captainDon’s boating experience started with the U.S. Navy where as a young Lieutenant, he commanded a 50’ Fast Patrol Craft, better known as a Swift Boat. It was in the Navy where he was drawn to the open sea, developing a love of its beauty, and most importantly, a respect for its power. After the Navy, Don stayed on the water as the captain of sailboats by cruising the Gulf of Mexico, Pacific Northwest, Chesapeake Bay, and New England. Some of his fondest memories include cruises to Bermuda, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and the coast of Maine. In addition to his professional boating career, as a CPA and consultant, Don devoted a large portion of his career to sales and marketing, specializing in financial software systems. Don has sailed San Diego waters for the past 10 years and has come to admire everything Americas Finest City has to offer. Once of his greatest joys as Captain is meeting new people, helping them see and enjoy our great city and have a wonderful time visiting us.

tom - San Diego Seals captainHi! I grew up in the Midwest…Chicago and northern Indiana. I graduated from Indiana University with a degree in radio and television production….something I have never used. I spent my entire career until now working in marketing, advertising and promotion at two of the nation's leading sales promotion agencies for clients like McDonalds, Wendy’s, United Airlines, Holiday Inn, and AT&T. Most recently I was director of marketing for Brunswick bowling, living in Frankfurt, Germany. Due to a major corporate restructuring, I left Brunswick and decided to move to San Diego and start an entire new career in tourism and cultured entertainment. Here I am. Besides traveling all over the world, I love golf, music, theater, and spectator sports. Nice to meet you!

old town trolley conductorI was born in a “Norman Rockwellian” town to two loving and supportive parents. Although it may be hard to believe, I did actually walk two miles to school…up hill…both ways and since it was Pennsylvania, there was occasionally snow (but I had shoes). I was an avid Partridge Family Fan Club member and suffered the normal “Jan Brady-esque” trauma of being a middle child, except my older sibling was a brother, but that didn’t stop me from wearing his clothes. After graduation from Penn State with a BS in Business Management, I worked for IBM before joining the Navy, which brought me to San Diego. I have a wonderfully talented and intelligent daughter, Megan, who shares my joy of reading, writing, and acting. At this point in my life, I’ve decided to go for what brings me joy – entertaining, informing, and helping people and according to some people…talking!
