Tour Guide John
John is a working Charleston Certified Tour Guide with experience in providing Historic Walking and Carriage tours, Culinary Tours, and Ghost Tours.
John has been an active member of the C.T.A. for the past five years and served on the founding group for the Palmetto Guild. During his tenure at a local carriage company, John introduced and implemented (with others) the concept of a Carriage Trade Association, now Charleston C.A.R.E.S. John has extensive experience dealing with the Department of Livability, Tourism Commission, and Mayor’s Office.
John has served in a variety of volunteer roles in educational, trade, and cultural institutions. He is currently president of an educational foundation in Chicago, IL., a Regent Emeritus at an Iowa liberal arts college, former Chairman of the Milwaukee Public Museum, and former Chairman of the Foundation for Investor Education. John’s professional activities over a 35-year-period include roles as CEO of a boutique investment bank, president of a large division of a major money management company, executive roles at two money center banks, and numerous board roles as a bank director, mutual fund trustee, and corporate directorships at a public and a private company.
John formerly taught at DePaul University’s Graduate School of Business, has been a speaker/panelist at numerous industry conclaves and contributed articles to various publications, including “The Harvard Business Review”. John resides on James Island with Lynn, his spouse of 44 years, has two grown children (Meghann and Johnny), and three grandchildren (Sam, Hailey, and Emily)! While hailing from the Midwest originally, John has greatly enjoyed the last ten years as a Low Country resident and would be happy to offer his time and energy to the CTA should the members so decide.
