Tybee Polar Plunge!
A Polar Plunge into the brisk waters of the Atlantic Ocean, Kool Karaoke in front of hundreds and the Gang of Goof Parade are all part of the fun at the 2016 Tybee Polar Plunge. Last year there was Kool Karaoke at the Pier and Pavilion with a DJ so anyone could get up and sing karaoke before the plunge, along with a costume contest for groups of three or more. The winners of the costume contest received the coveted Le Gang of Goofs trophy. The polar plunge is at noon on New Years Day. Tickets, specific times and details to be announced.
Free Family Day at Telfair!!
Every month, the Telfair Museums has a free Family Day on the second Saturday in which children can enjoy hands on art projects, gallery exploration activities, story time and other great activities designed for the entire family. Kids can create DIY masterpieces, play art detective and explore the ArtZeum, an interactive arts space. Each month the Telfair Museums feature a different theme based on the museum’s changing exhibitions.
Romeo & Juliet Ballet
Go see the full-length Romeo and Juliet ballet in three acts, with music by Sergei Prokofiev and choreography by Michael Lavrovsky, at the Savannah Civic Center. Founded by legendary dancer and former principal dancer of The Bolshoi Theatre Ballet, Maya Plisetskaya, The State Ballet Theatre of Russia - now under the direction of award-winning dancer and Moiseyev Dance Company soloist Nikolay Anokhin - presents the most passionate romantic tragedy ever told. This full-scale production is choreographed by Bolshoi Theatre Ballet Choreographer Michael Lavrovsky and based on William Shakespeare’s timeless tale of tragic love. The State Ballet Theatre of Russia presents 55 of Russia’s brightest ballet stars to bring this celebration of true love onto our stage and into our hearts. Tickets are $28-$58. Open Fire Cooking Workshop
Oatland Island Wildlife Center will host an Open Fire Cooking Workshop in which participants can enjoy a five-course meal that they have prepared throughout the day, along with learning how to choose and care for cast iron cookware, select fire wood, as well as curing, cooking techniques, recipes and other topics. All scouting leaders, youth or church group leaders, teachers, park staff, or just plain outdoor enthusiasts are invited to attend. The workshop will be held outdoors at Oatland’s Heritage Home Site. Participants should come prepared for the weather. In case of rain, a rain date will be selected. The workshop is open to anyone 12 years or older and will include a full meal that the participants have created throughout the day.
