I am originally from New Haven, Connecticut. My family arrived in America in the 1750s and established themselves in Annapolis, MD (Carr & Sparrow Beaches- Family owned, one of the few African American Beaches in America). My father’s family was from St. Albans, West Virginia. I attended Hampton University. My 2nd home is Ghana, West Africa. I am a historian and have lived or traveled in Greece, Guyana, Suriname, Brazil, Trinidad, Nigeria, Togo, Benin, and the Ivory Coast. My favorite activities include: 1. Reading, researching, writing, public speaking. 2. Basketball, flag football, softball, volleyball, bowling. 3. Being a vegetarian (I have been for 45 years). 4. Keeping track of my children. I have 3 sons from Ghana in school in New Haven and 2 daughters in Entertainment. What brought me to OTT? Bruce’s phone call. The bigger question is what brought me to Savannah. I’m a spiritual person, so I’ll say a power greater than myself led me here as in everywhere I’ve been. Plus, I have an old friend who’s been a conductor a long time here. I hadn’t seen him in 30 years! He was in Atlanta with me when my daughter “Avnah Sings” was born. Now THAT’S spiritual!
