Dia de los Inocentes (Day of the Children)

November 1st is “El Dia de los Inocentes” or the Day of the Children and also known as All Saints Day. November 2nd is All Souls Day or the actual Dia de los Muertos. According to tradition, the gates of heaven are opened at midnight on October 31st and the spirits of children can rejoin their families for 24 hours. The event consists of three major themes: Remembrance, Community and Celebration. Some believe that the spirits come back in the form of Monarch butterflies which come in droves to some parts of Mexico.
