Viewed as an integral part of Old Town San Diego since 1857, the Whaley House offers you a glimpse into the past. With more than a century in the making, the Whaley House holds an impressive amount of San Diego heritage, from the time of old west prospectors to the flourishing of Old Town as the heart of California. Recognized as the oldest two-story brick-structure south of Monterey California, the Whaley House features magnificent Greek Revival architecture along with an unrivaled historical timeline encompassing San Diego’s second County courthouse, a lively theatre, a charming general store, and a prominent family home. Interpret tales of unanswered crimes, puzzling tragedies, eternal sorrow, and mysterious legends that surround the grounds. Where do I start my tour?

What time should I arrive for my tour?
You must check in at the gift shop next to the Whaley House at least 30 minutes prior to your tour. Of course, you are welcome to check in even earlier than that.

Where can I park?
There is free parking available at Old Town State Park. Please plan accordingly.

Is the tour ADA accessible?
Please note that this tour requires going up and down stairs, and traversing over uneven grounds. ADA access on the first floor. 24 hour notice is requested by calling (619) 298-8687.

Approximately how long is the tour?
Walk through at your own pace after a 10-minute introduction. Self-guided tour of the Whaley House and grounds averages 30-40 minutes.

Is the tour suitable for children?
This tour may not be suitable for children under 13 years of age.

Do you tell true stories or do you make them up?
The stories about The Whaley House have been historically researched. The stories weave together the history and haunted tales from the past associated with this location in Old Town San Diego.

Are cameras allowed on the tour?
Yes! Be sure to ask your tour guides for tips to increase your chances of photographing the supernatural. Please note that video recording is not allowed inside the museum.

Are we going to see a ghost?
Many of our guests have reported unusual experiences in the Whaley House. Remember to bring your camera… you never know what might appear in your photos.

Do we need reservations?
The Whaley House Museum is open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis during our daytime tours.

Are food and drinks allowed while on the tour?
Food and drinks are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed under any circumstance for the safety and comfort of all of our guests.

Are dogs allowed on your tours?
Service dogs are allowed in the Whaley House museum.

Monday – Wednesday: 1pm – 4:30pm.
Thursday – Sunday: 10am – 4:30pm.
