Located in the heart of St. Augustine, this architectural marvel has played a significant role in America’s history. From the time it was built in 1672, to date, the fort has witnessed countless wars and struggles, yet it still stands tall and strong. The best way to visit the fort is by taking the Old Town Trolley Tour. The trolley stops at all of the major landmarks and monuments in St. Augustine, including Castillo de San Marcos. Not only will you get a chance to see the stunning fort but you’ll also be able to explore the city’s rich history and culture.

Built in 1891, the St. Augustine Old Jail Museum was once home to some of the most notorious residents of the city. The jail was used until 1953 and has since been transformed into a living museum. As you walk through the old cells, you can imagine what life was like for those who were incarcerated for everything from drunkenness to murder. If you really want to get the most out of your visit to the Old Jail, book a guided tour. Your guide will tell you stories about prisoners and their families, the jail wardens, and life in the city. You’ll learn about the health and safety concerns of the prisoners and how they passed their time while locked behind bars.

If you have only one day in St. Augustine, you can still experience the best of the city. You can start with the Old Town Trolley Tour, which will take you to the Historic District, containing the Castillo de San Marcos and St. George Street, where you can stroll through Colonial-era buildings turned into quaint boutiques and cafes. After the tour, head to Flagler College, the Lightner Museum, and Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park. End your day with a local seafood dinner at Raintree Restaurant or Harry’s Seafood Bar and Grille.

While it is technically possible to walk everywhere in St. Augustine, it can be quite tiring, especially in the hot summer months. Additionally, some attractions are quite spread out, such as Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park and the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum. The Old Town Trolley Tour is a great way to get around and see all the must-visit spots without getting too exhausted. The trolley tour takes you on a 90-minute loop, covering all the key attractions and landmarks in the city.
